Scottsdale Brush and Bulk Collection: Rules and Areas

The monthly pickup by area, the pile rules the crew actually enforces, the separate appliance day, and the free weekly landfill trip that most residents never use.

Scottsdale picks up brush and bulk once a month for anyone paying the city's residential trash rate. The city is cut into four areas from north to south, each area gets one week a month, and the crew passes each street exactly once. Your week is in the My Services address lookup.

Scottsdale calls it brush and bulk because green waste is half the program. Everything below comes from the city's brush and bulk page and its 2026 map and calendar PDF, and where the two disagree I say so.

Which area am I in?

Four bands, north to south. The dividing lines are Deer Valley Road, Cactus Road (Via Linda on the east side), and Indian Bend Road.

AreaBoundaries
Area 1North city limits to Deer Valley Rd
Area 2Deer Valley Rd to Cactus Rd / Via Linda
Area 3Cactus Rd / Via Linda to Indian Bend Rd
Area 4Indian Bend Rd to the south city limits

The order inside each month runs Area 2 first, then 3, then 4, with Area 1 in the last week of the month, and a few months have a fifth week with no pickup at all. Rather than retype a calendar the city publishes as a graphic, use the My Services lookup for your exact weeks, or open the 2026 schedule PDF. The PDF also carries a note about new area boundaries being rolled out, so if you live near Cactus Road, trust the lookup over the map.

What are the set-out rules?

What Scottsdale will and will not take

Furniture, mattresses, tube and projection TVs, limbs up to 6 feet long and under a foot across, bagged and tied grass and leaves, and boxed cacti are all fine. The no list:

Not acceptedWhere it goes instead
Appliances: washers, dryers, fridges, freezers, water heatersFree appliance collection on the last Thursday of every month for account holders. Fridges and freezers need the freon recovered and compressor removed by a certified tech, doors off.
Dirt, rocks, sod, sand, concrete, cementSalt River Landfill, weight-priced, or a hauler.
Construction and remodel debrisSame. The free resident landfill trip covers it if you stay under a ton.
Fiberglass: tubs, showers, pool equipment, insulationLandfill or a hauler. This one surprises people mid-remodel.
Auto parts, tires, rimsNo city program. A tire shop or the landfill.
Electronics and flat screensElectronics events at the North Corporation Yard, 9191 E. San Salvador Dr. 2026 dates: Feb 7, Apr 4, Oct 3, Dec 5, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Household hazardous waste and household garbageThe curbside HHW appointment program, and your black container.

City facilities are not drop-off points for any of it. That trips up people who drive to the corporation yard with a fridge in the truck. The appliance collection page has the freon paperwork rules.

Can Scottsdale residents dump for free?

Yes, and it is the most generous deal in the Valley if you have a truck. The Residential Landfill Program gives every solid waste customer one free trip per calendar week, Monday to Saturday, to the Salt River Landfill at 4660 N. Beeline Hwy. Up to 2,000 pounds, in a non-commercial vehicle no bigger than a three-quarter-ton pickup or a 1.5 cubic yard trailer.

The paperwork is where people get turned around. Bring the top portion of your current City of Scottsdale utility bill showing the solid waste charge, on paper. If you get e-bills, print it. Phone photos are not accepted. Bring a driver's license that matches the bill. Go over a ton or show up without the bill and it is $60 a ton with a $30 minimum, cash only. An uncovered load is $20 extra, and a fridge without a technician's freon receipt gets charged. Hours at the landfill are Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., closed Sunday. Mesa residents use the same landfill under different rules, which are in our Mesa dump guide.

Where does hazardous waste go?

Scottsdale has no drop-off site. Instead it picks hazardous waste up at your curb by appointment, free up to three times a year, in every month except June and December. Signups open on the first of the month at 8 a.m. on the HHW page and close when the slots are gone, which is fast. Twenty gallons per appointment in containers of 5 gallons or less, out by 7 a.m. on the day. No electronics, no appliances, no e-bike batteries.

When it is worth calling us instead

If your week is close, the pile fits in 10 by 6 by 4, and it is furniture and branches, use the city. Free wins.

Call us when the program does not fit the job. Your week just passed and the next one is a month out. The pile is drywall, a shower surround, tile, pool equipment, or a fridge with the freon still in it, which the city will not touch at the curb. You are in Gainey Ranch or McCormick Ranch with an HOA that photographs piles. Or the stuff is in a guest house and the free trip still means you load a truck you do not own.

Pricing is flat and based on trailer space. Single items start at $70, a quarter load is $160, and a full trailer is $500, with loading, hauling, and dump fees included. The quote is the price for the job you showed me. If the job changes, the price changes, and I will say so before we load. The full breakdown is in how junk removal pricing works. Usable furniture gets donated and metal gets recycled.

Text a photo of the pile to (480) 316-1884 and you will usually have a price within the hour. South Scottsdale is about 20 minutes from my driveway in Mesa. More on our Scottsdale junk removal page, and appliance removal if the fridge is the problem.

Scottsdale brush and bulk questions

How often is brush and bulk pickup in Scottsdale?

Once a month for every address with city residential trash service. The city is split into four areas from north to south, and each area gets one Monday-to-Friday week a month.

How do I find my Scottsdale bulk pickup week?

Type your address into the city's My Services tool. It shows your trash day, recycling day, and the brush and bulk weeks for your address. The map and calendar PDF works too, but the lookup is faster.

When can I put brush and bulk out?

No sooner than three days before the Monday of your week, and everything must be out by 5 a.m. that Monday. The crew passes each street once during the week and will not come back for a pile that showed up after they left.

How big can the pile be?

Ten feet long, six feet wide, four feet tall. The city describes it as six trash cans in two rows of three. Keep it a few feet away from containers, meters, hydrants, and walls, and keep the green pile separate from the bulk pile.

Will Scottsdale pick up a refrigerator or washer?

Not with brush and bulk. Appliances have their own free pickup on the last Thursday of the month. Refrigerators and freezers only go if a certified technician has already recovered the freon and removed the compressor, and the doors have to come off.

Can Scottsdale residents dump for free?

Yes. The Residential Landfill Program gets you one free trip a week to the Salt River Landfill, up to 2,000 pounds, in a non-commercial vehicle. Bring the top of your current paper utility bill and a matching driver's license. Phone photos of the bill are not accepted.

Does Scottsdale have a hazardous waste drop-off?

No drop-off site. It is a curbside appointment program, free up to three times a year, with signups opening the first of each month at 8 a.m. and closing when the slots fill.

Rules, areas, and fees verified September 2026 against the City of Scottsdale's brush and bulk page, 2026 schedule PDF, and Residential Landfill Program page. Exact collection weeks are deliberately left to the city's address lookup. Confirm before you set a pile out.
